I heard a story about a Rabbi named Akiva.
One night Akiva was walking home and was so engrossed in the scripture he was studying that he went the wrong way. He took the wrong path to a Roman military fortress. He walked right near the gate. As he went to turn, he heard a voice, “Who are you? Why are you here?”
Akiva misheard the man and asked, “What?”.
The Roman guard said, “Who are you? Why are you here? “
Akiva asked, “How much are they paying you to ask me that?”
The Guard responded, “Two Drachma.”
Akiva told the guard, “I’ll pay you twice that to stand outside my home and ask me that every morning.”
Mic Drop.
This story deals with two fundamental questions:
- What is your identity (Who are you?)
- What is your purpose? (Why are you here?)
A great Legacy answers those questions with confidence and clarity.
I don’t have 10 steps to finding your purpose and identity. I have two questions that may help unlock that for you. The trick is you must keep asking until you find the answer:
Who are you?
Why are you here?
