I run through Cincinnati almost every day. I love it. Especially the morning time when the sun peaks over the Purple People Bridge with an orange and red hue. Downtown there is a statue of a man. A man who inspired the name of our city. Cincinnatus.
When I run through Cincinnati, I sometimes think of this man. I am inspired by the legend of Cincinnatus.
Legend has it – Cincinnatus was enjoying retirement as a farmer. He was content to care for his land.
One day, the Aequians attacked Rome. Rome called on Cincinnatus, and he became their leader. He was victorious against the Aequians.
It took 16 days!
Rome gave him complete authority, like a king.
Immediately after his victory, he returned power to the government.
He was king for 16 days and gave it up. He no longer needed the power.
Power is difficult to use, and even harder to let go of when you have it.
What does it take to become a leader who wields power like Cincinnatus?
