“All I want to know is where I am going to die, so I’ll never go there”
- Charlie Munger
Hack your survival brain and do great stuff by avoiding the bad stuff.
Your Brain: Programmed to find threats and either fight them or avoid them. That’s why you think about what’s stressing you out better than what you’re grateful for.
How can you turn that into an advantage?
When trying to solve a problem look for the inverse, and ask, “How do I avoid it?’
Example:
If your goal is to lose weight, the inverse is gaining weight.
you would use inverse thinking by asking, “How do I avoid gaining weight?”
How do you gain weight? Eat bad, eat a lot, don’t exercise.
How do you avoid gaining weight? don’t eat bad, don’t eat a lot, and do exercise
I’ve used this in solving sales problems. To gain more sales we often look for solutions. You read books, watch youtube videos, and hire experts and yet the problem persists.
Invert it and ask, how do I lose sales?
- Don’t answer the phone.
- Be mean.
- Don’t follow up.
How do you avoid losing sales?
- Answer the phone
- Be nice
- Follow up
What else can you use this for?
