Sauna Benefits and Protocol

After running 35 miles I have been on the slow path to recovery. Sauna is something that has gotten a lot of attention, so I will throw in the mix a few things I have learned. My experience with Sauna has been improved sleep, improved recovery, and mood stability. I’ll attach a bunch of other benefits I’ve learned about

20 minutes – 4-8 times per week 

Benefits:

  1. Mimics exercise
    • Increase in heart rate
  2. Decrease Arthritis
  3. Decrease in Heart Disease
  4. Decrease in Depression / Anxiety
  5. Increase in different hormones. Growth hormone, Cortisol, norepinephrine, white blood cell count, and heat shock proteins.
  6. 18 – 40% decrease mortality rate.
  7. Better sleep
  8. Better mood
  9. Quicker recovery
  10. Improve Endurance

The Protocol:

20 minute sauna session 4-8 times per week. 80 degrees celsius or 175 degrees Fahrenheit.
