1 Timothy 3:4 – He must manage his own family well, having children who respect and obey him.
This verse is about what to look for in an elder, a church leader. I like how the bible simplifies what to look for. In a world of lots of leadership material it is hard to know what to look for, I think a very revealing quality is how they manage their household. Those that get under their skin the most! Those that have the most time to annoy us fathers or mothers!
Leaders balance Love and Discipline
I think if someone does this at home they will do it at work.
Love – an ability to show care, interest, support. The result is approachability and a feeling of value.
Discipline – Challenging you to stop something you should stop or start / continue doing something you should be doing. You’re firm and tough when needed to be.
Doing both of the above well will result in respect.
